The app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use the Echotype app on Macs you own or control. You may not sell, rent or redistribute the app, or remove its notices. Echotype includes third-party components, such as speech and language models, that are covered by their own licences.
Dictation that runs on your Mac is free and keeps working whatever plan you are on.
Accounts
You need a free account to use Echotype, on every plan. You sign in with Apple, Google or a code sent to an email address you control. Keep access to that email safe; anyone who can sign in as you can use your plan. One person per account. Marketing emails are optional: you get product news and offers only if you opt in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Plans
Echotype has two plans. Free covers dictation on your Mac, plus 2,000 Echotype Cloud words a week. Pro adds Echotype Cloud features such as Command Mode, context-aware cleanup and meeting summaries. Current prices and features are on the pricing page. Pro has fair use of up to 30 hours of audio a month in Echotype Cloud.
The free trial
The first time you sign in, your account gets 14 days of Pro at no charge and without a card. The trial ends by itself and does not turn into a paid subscription. One trial per person; making extra accounts to get more trials is not allowed.
Payment and Dodo Payments
Pro subscriptions are sold through Dodo Payments, which acts as our merchant of record. Dodo processes the payment, issues the receipt and handles sales tax, VAT or GST, and its own terms also apply to the purchase. We never see or store your card details. The price, including any tax, is shown at checkout before you pay.
Renewal
Pro is billed in advance and renews automatically at the end of each month or year until you cancel. Each renewal is charged at the price in effect at that time. If we change the price, we email you before it applies, and the new price starts from your next billing period.
Cancelling
You can cancel any time from Account in the app or by emailing [email protected]. Cancelling stops the next renewal. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for, then the account moves to Free. If a renewal payment fails and isn't fixed, the account also moves to Free.
Refunds
Refunds are covered by our refund policy.
Your content
What you dictate is yours. Make sure you have the right to record and transcribe what you capture, including other people in meetings, and follow the recording laws where you and they are. When you use Echotype Cloud, we process your audio and text only to give you the result, as described in the Privacy Policy.
Acceptable use
Do not use Echotype to break the law, to record or send audio you have no right to, to get around limits (for example with many accounts), to resell or share access, or to attack or overload our services. We may suspend accounts that do.
Changes to the service
We may add, change or remove features. If we remove a paid feature you rely on, you can cancel and ask for a refund of the unused part of your current period.
No warranty
Transcription is automatic and can be wrong, so check important text before you rely on it. Echotype is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data or profits, that come from using Echotype, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, or your rights as a consumer where you live.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without taking away consumer protections you have where you live.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We change the date at the top of this page, and for changes that affect paid plans we email you before they apply.
